Commonwealth Games, Day 3, Live Updates: India have added a fifth medal to their tally with star weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga winning a second gold for India in the men’s 67kg weightlifting event. The youngster from Mizoram clinched the title in style by setting a new Games Record of 300kg (combined snatch + clean and jerk) lift. With Jeremy’s medal India have now won two gold, two silver and one bronze medal so far. Boxer Nikhat Zareen beat Mozambique’s Helena Ismael 5-0 to enter 50kg quarter-finals, however, Shiva Thapa bowed out of the 63.5 kg Round of 16 losing to Scotland’s Reese Lynch. Indian swimmer Srihari Natraj clocked 25.52 seconds to qualify for the semifinals of men’s 50m backstroke event. In table tennis, defending champions India stormed into the semi-finals of the men’s team event after thrashing Bangladesh 3-0 in the third last-eight tie.

However, in men’s 200m butterfly swimming, Sajan Prakash finished fourth in his heat after clocking 1:58:99s and was put in the reserve list. In cricket, India have dismissed Pakistan for 99 in 18 overs and are chasing well at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Both India and Pakistan lost their respective opening Group A matches, and are in desperate need of a win. Indian gymnast Yogeshwar Singh finished 15th in the men’s all-around final of artistic gymnastics event. The Haryana gymnast, who had participated in three World Championships, finished with an overall score of 74.700. On Day 2, India won four medals with weightlifter Mirabai Chanu winning gold. The contingent would now hope to backup Day 2 with good performances on Day 3.

    Jeremy led the field throughout! First he set a new snatch Games record with a lift of 140kg. His nearest competitor lifted 130kg in snatch. 

    Then in clean and jerk, Jeremy lifted 160kg in his second attempt. Though, Samoa’s Vaipava Nevo came up with a clean and jerk Games record of 166kg, Jeremy combined best of 300kg was seven kg better than Nevo’s combined of 293kg.  The Samoan had to be satisfied with a silver medal.
