Imran Khan, former Pakistan Prime Minister, got injured today when unidentified gunmen fired during a protest march in Pakistan. Shots were fired at the container-mounted-truck carrying Imran Khan in Pakistan’s Punjab province. According to local media, Mr Khan is out of danger.
Imran Khan was leading a protest march to Islamabad to demand snap elections.
Chaotic scenes broke out near Imran Khan’s reception camp at Allahwala Chowk in Gujranwala after gunshots were fired, reported local channel Geo News. It said several people were injured.
The incident, about 200 km from Islamabad, brought back chilling memories of how former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was shot dead during a rally in 2007.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was injured in a shooting at one of his rallies in Pakistan on Thursday. There may have been two gunmen who fired – one with a pistol and another with an automatic rifle. One of them was seen being tackled and was later arrested.

Senator Faisal Javed, who was injured when a bullet grazed his face, said that a party worker was killed during the attack, while another was severely injured. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack on 70-year-old cricketer-turned politician.
“I strongly condemn the firing at Imran Khan’s rally. An immediate report of the incident has been sought from the Interior Minister. We pray for the speedy recovery of Imran and other injured. The Federation will provide all possible support to the Punjab government in the security/investigation of the incident. Violence should have no place in national politics,” Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said.

During investigation, one of the two gunmen involved in the attacked during a rally in Pakistan’s Punjab says that he shot Imran Khan as the former Pakistan PM was misleading people.
In a tweet, Pakistan’s President Arif Alvi called the attack on Imran Khan a “heinous assassination attempt”. “I thank Allah that he is safe but injured with few bullets in his leg & hopefully non-critical,” he tweeted.

Doctors say that Imran Khan has received bullet injuries, but is doing alright, reports local media.
“He is in a stable condition,” Raoof Hasan, a senior Khan aide told AFP, adding: “This was an attempt to kill him, to assassinate him.”
Videos showed that 70-year-old Imran Khan was hit in the right leg. Police shifted him to a bullet proof vehicle from the container he was riding at the time of the attack.
